Upon the completion of process of massage, both receiver & masseur should relax for few minutes. Post massage, following treatments and or procedures may be advised for the patient as per tradition: -
- Mardana or Rubbing: -
As advised in ‘Daily regimen’, after massage & exercise performed, treatment called ‘Mardana’ should be given. In ‘Mardana’, body is rubbed with more pressure as compared to that in massage. This type of massage is especially useful for pain in muscle and ligaments etc, to remove fatigue & is also useful in diseases due to cold. - “Udvartana and Udgharshana” or Rubbing in Upward Direction: - Also after massage, these two procedures can be carried out. Udvartana is also called as “Sharir-parimarjana” and is done with slightly more pressure than in massage but in an upward direction” (i.e. direction towards heart). It is of 2 types:
- Dry
- Unctuous.
Dry Udvartana with herbal powders as advised in obesity, can be done after the massage procedure so that excess of oil/unabsorbed oil over skin along with sweat etc may be removed.
Udgharshana: Means friction with dry herbal powder.
Utsadana: Means friction with slightly unctuous herbal powders - Post massage, hot water bath after approximately 15 minutes is advisable for patient. Use of soap should be avoided during bath as it contains chemicals & cause damage to skin producing dryness etc & instead, herbal powders could be used.
- Post massage, patient should avoid receiving cold air immediately.
- Masseur should also wash his hands with herbal powders & hot water.
