Homoeopathy is a simple system of medicine, which goes with the natural phenomenon, and it has analogy with other popular systems of medicine like, Ayurveda, accu- pressure, Chinese herbal medicines and naturopathy. It is an art as well as science, which have got its own theory and beliefs.
- Doctrine of vital force- Homoeopathy believes that, there is some force called vital force that originates from the universal energy or power. And it governs the body and without this force the body is dead. The disease processes starts as soon as the vital force gets deranged so the harmony of the body gets disturbed and causes the disease.
- Doctrine of trinity of life- Mind, body and spirit forms trinity of life if all these entities are balance the person is called a healthy human being, derangement in any of above may lead to disease. Vital force keeps all three things in harmony. Homoeopathy is one of the 1st therapies that gives more emphasis to the mind and personality of the individual and feels that cure should be 1st of mental symptoms as disease originate in mind.
- Doctrine of drug dinamization- Homoeopathy strongly criticizes use of drugs in crude form as it may lead to many adverse effects. So Hahnemann introduced one unique method of preparation of medicines, where a drug in crude form undergoes a process of serial dilutions called potentization by which its toxic powers will be minimized and hidden virtues will be aroused. By this method son many inert substances like common salt, snake and animal poisons can be used as a life saving measures.
- Doctrine of drug proving- Unlike other systems the drugs are not verified in laboratories but its effects are noted on healthy human beings of different ages and sexes. They are carefully noted dawn and matching those symptoms with that of disease individual prescription is made.
- Doctrine of chronic diseases- Hahnemann was the first physician who tried to describe the origin of disease and chronicity of diseases and like tridosha theory of Ayurveda he introduced theory of miasms. There are three tendencies, which are responsible for illness in human body, deficiency of substances called psora, excessive production called sycosis and perversion of system called syphilis. Homoeopathy was the 1st system in Europe, which stated that diseases can be genetically and sexually transmitted.
- Doctrine of minimum dose- Homoeopathy strongly criticizes the use of multiple drugs for the treatment of single disease and also it uses the minimum dose, which is just sufficient to treat the patient. So it usually gives single dose of the medicine at a time in minimum quantity so not producing side effects.
- Doctrine of susceptibility- Homoeopathy believes that there is a tendency in all loving organism to receive any stimuli of disease and a power to react to it, it’s called susceptibility. It helps in prescription as the sensitivity of each and every person differs.
- Doctrine of individualization- Homoeopathy strongly condemns the use of patents, generic medicines and specific drugs. As it feels that same disease will have different effect on different individuals. For e.g., if five people get wet in rain. One may have urticaria, one may have simple cold, one may have asthma, another may suffer from joint pains or some body may not have illness also. So this is the unique doctrine of homoeopathy that god has made every body as a unique personality so you have to treat the individual not the disease, judging his body mind condition and sensitivity
Scope and Limitations
Homoeopathy is answer for patients of modern era who suffer from lots of stress and strain, so it is useful in all chronic incurable diseases where recurrence prevails for e.g., sinusitis, asthma, mental disorders, skin disorders, in incurable illnesses like cancer and Aids it can give good symptomatic relief.
But homoeopathy have a limited role in cases of accidents, compound fractures, mature cataracts, so in all diseases which are of pure surgical origin homoeopathy has limitations although pre and post surgical care can be taken with homoeopathy effectively.
The Philosophy
Man does not become sick in part. The whole of him becomes sick: body, mind, and spirit. The body will manifest symptoms in the illness, but the physical body is not the origin of the illness. At death, the physical body remains, but it is no longer curable. That, which is curable, has left the body. An imbalance in the vital force is the origin of the illness. The symptoms expressed by the body, the mind, and the spirit are simply the signposts telling about that imbalance. Homeopathic doctors used those symptoms to select a remedy especially for that person for his illness, but the remedy is a potentized substance having an energy force. That energy force acts on the vital force. Once the vital force comes back to its original balance, the person heals himself.
